Mirror Flower Water Moon

镜花水月怀旧事

Mirror Flower, Water Moon is a lyrical, romantic collection of film notes. Sonia Hu shares her responses to the films she has seen and the stories behind those responses. If cinema is history in motion, these notes form a small part of that moving history—a window through which we can glimpse the winding course of its larger river.

Hu’s father was editor-in-chief of Foreign Films, an internal publication of the China Film Association, while her mother was editor-in-chief of Foreign Theatre, a magazine of the China Theatre Association. Their extensive introductions to and criticism of international cinema and theatre profoundly influenced her. A television producer who worked at CBS and MTV in the United States, Hu approaches film through its human stories and historical and cultural context, bringing a richly informed perspective to her criticism.
