Reminiscence of Fleeting Time
往事经年流水梦
This collection brings together nineteen nonfiction accounts by Sonia Hu, fourteen of which appeared in Taiwan’s Biographical Literature journal. Her work grows from a search for family history, connecting personal recollection with the lives of earlier generations.
An encounter with photographs and a handwritten poetry manuscript by her great-grandfather Hu Shiyu helped set that search in motion. From family stories to the history surrounding them, Hu retrieves fragments of lives she came to understand after many years in the United States. The essays preserve people and experiences that might otherwise disappear, creating a small time capsule within the larger flow of history.
